My dog, Doug Von Vandersnout ( we just call him "Doug") is of Champion lineage, with bloodline links to Westminster Champions (best in breed) Schnitzel Von Vandersnout and Fritz Toasterstrudel (for your information, we are not making this up).
Doug also enjoys pursuing small game, and rabbits are amongst his current interests.
Doug has a brindle coloring, even temperament, and is extremely loyal and protective ( one of the traits the Bavarian barons were most keen about in this particular breed, as it was a great family protector while the Barons and their knights were on the battlefield). These historical absences and breeding has made them a "matriarchal focused" animal, and they tend to bond strongest with the lady of the house for this reason. Bavarian Elk Hounds are very quiet and do not bark very frequently - a skill that was honed for both hunting and attacking threats to the family - and is why they are known locally in Bavaria as the "Brindled Ghosts of the Black Forest."

Also, Bavarian Elk Hounds like to dress up for Halloween - if you don't believe me, I have evidence!
